The MC33033 is a high-performance, second-generation, limited-function monolithic brushless DC motor controller developed from the MC33034 and MC33035 controllers. It contains all effective functions required for open-loop, three-phase or four-phase motor control implementation. The device includes a rotor position decoder for correct commutation sequence, temperature compensated reference capable of powering sensors, frequency programmable sawtooth oscillator, fully accessible error amplifier, pulse width modulated comparator, three open collectors The top driver, along with three high-current totem-pole bottom drivers, are suitable for driving power MOSFETs. Unlike previous generation devices, it does not have separate drive circuit power and ground pins, brake input or fault output signals. Protection features are included in the MC33033, including under-voltage lockout, cycle-by-cycle current limit shutdown mode with selectable time delay, and internal high-temperature shutdown. Typical motor control functions include open loop speed, forward or reverse, and run enable. The MC33033 is suitable for running brushless motors with electronic sensor phases of 60°/300° or 120°/240° and can also efficiently control brushed DC motors.
